Nyepi Day Notification

We are pleased that you will have the opportunity to experience the Saka New Year or Nyepi Day while staying here. Allow us to share some useful information about the activities and traditions during the Nyepi Day.

On Sunday, March 10, around 6:00 PM local time, all villages in Bali will carry out the ceremony of expelling evil spirits "bhuta kala" with the "caru" ceremony. The ceremony will be followed by various percussion instruments or other sound devices such as gongs, kentongan, bamboo, and others. This ceremony is called the "pengrupukan ceremony" and the activity is intended to expel all evil spirits from the earth's surface.

Monday, March 11, is NYEPI DAY – the first day of the Saka New Year 1946. Everyone living in Bali is required to stay indoors at their respective homes or accommodations from 6:00 AM for a full 24 hours! This is enforced and officially monitored by the government and village authorities. People are not allowed to light fires/stoves or turn on lights; instead, they are encouraged to spend their time meditating and praying – clearing their minds and hearts or doing "brata penyepian."

In general, Nyepi Day will not affect the operations of Prime Plaza Hotel, Sanur - Bali. However, since we are currently in and part of the Balinese community, all guests are requested to respect this tradition by doing the following:

  • You are requested not to leave Prime Plaza Hotel, Sanur, Bali starting from Monday, March 11, at 06:00 AM till Tuesday, March 12, at 6:00 AM.
  • Please minimize the use of lights, especially those that directly shine out of the room. Make sure all window curtains and doors are tightly closed before turning on the room lights.
  • Please do not make loud noises and keep your voice volume as low as possible, especially when in open places where the sounds we make can be heard everywhere.
  • According to the Bali regional government regulations on that day, cable TV services, WIFI, and internet will be temporarily stopped.
  • Activities for guests, including food and beverage services, will remain open. Food and drinks from outside the hotel are prohibited from being consumed in the swimming pool area and its surroundings.
  • During this Nyepi period, some guidelines and regulations related to food and beverage services will be strictly enforced.
