Tradition, Rhythm, and Celebration in the Heart of Klungkung

The Semarapura Festival is a vibrant cultural celebration held from April 28 to May 1, 2025, in the heart of Semarapura. Set in an iconic area surrounded by historical landmarks, the festival takes place near the main entrance of Puri Agung Klungkung, with the striking Catus Pata Statue as its backdrop creating a truly authentic cultural atmosphere.

One of the main highlights of the festival is the captivating Genjek performance, a traditional Balinese vocal art where a group of performers create rhythmic sounds and melodies using only their voices, often combined with storytelling and humor. Another key attraction is Adi Merdangga, a dynamic percussion-based performance that showcases powerful traditional rhythms, usually played using gamelan instruments and performed in a synchronized, energetic formation. These performances bring the spirit of Balinese culture to life and offer a memorable experience for visitors.

In addition to these highlights, visitors can enjoy cultural parades, regional dance and music performances, contemporary art showcases, as well as exhibitions of local handicrafts and Klungkung’s culinary specialties. The festival also actively involves local SMEs, communities, and younger generations through competitions and workshops. With its eco-friendly concept and strong emphasis on cultural preservation, the Semarapura Festival stands as a meaningful celebration of tradition, creativity and community.
