Our Commitment to a Greener Bali: How We Care for the Island We Call Home

At Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur, we believe that sustainability isn’t just a responsibility, it’s a calling. Nestled in the heart of Bali’s serene coastal village, we’re proud to do our part in keeping this island paradise clean, green, and thriving for future generations.

Our team is deeply committed to real, measurable action in line with Bali’s environmental mission. Guided by the Governor’s Regulation No. 47 of 2019 on source-based waste management, our staff and management work hand-in-hand to ensure that we’re reducing our footprint every single day.

Here’s how we’re making a difference:

1. Turning Fruit Waste into Eco-Enzyme

Each day, we collect leftover fruit peels from our kitchens and ferment them with molasses and water. After three months, this mixture becomes eco-enzyme, a powerful, all-natural liquid used as a cleaner, odor remover, and even insect repellent. With monthly harvests, we produce up to 80 liters of eco-enzyme, helping reduce organic waste and eliminate the need to buy it externally.

2. From Leaves to Life: Organic Compost with Chop Leaves

Instead of discarding trimmed leaves and branches from our lush garden, we use a wood chipper to turn green waste into compost. This nutrient-rich fertilizer helps us maintain vibrant gardens while keeping green waste out of landfills, a simple but powerful step in circular sustainability.

3. Building Biopores for Water Conservation

To help rainwater return to the earth naturally, we’ve created a series of biopore infiltration holes around our property. These drainage solutions not only reduce puddles and the risk of flooding but also recharge groundwater, supporting Bali’s delicate water ecosystem, especially during the dry season.

4. Fighting Food Waste with Maggot Farming

We’ve partnered with a third-party initiative to feed leftover food to Black Soldier Fly larvae (magots). We also made a house for these Maggots so that they would not disturb the guests staying overnight, the larva remarkable creatures consume organic waste rapidly and can be processed into protein-rich feed for animals or organic fertilizer. It’s our way of reducing food waste while contributing to a circular economy that supports local farming and aquaculture.

5. Saying No to Single-Use Plastic

Plastic has no place in paradise. We’ve replaced bottled water in guest rooms with reusable glass jars and installed refill stations on every floor to encourage sustainable hydration. At events, we’ve swapped out plastic-wrapped candy for eco-friendly, paper-wrapped alternatives, small changes that make a big impact.

Through these ongoing initiatives, we strive to be more than just a place to stay. We want to be part of something greater, a collective movement toward a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Bali. This is not just about corporate responsibility, it's our heartfelt way of giving back to the island we love and sharing that mission with every guest who walks through our doors.

Let’s build a better Bali together,  one small action at a time.
